Robert S. Gailey, PhD, PT. is a full time faculty member at the University of Miami
School of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedics, Division of Physical Therapy. Some of
the courses he has taught include: kinesiology, pathokinesiolagy, prosthetics and therapeutic
exercise. He has five years experience in the hospital based acute care setting
with a concentrated experience in amputee management. For the past seventeen years he
has worked exclusively with prosthetics and amputee rehabilitation. He has authored
over 40 publications and has continued research efforts directed toward: amputee
rehabilitation, the biomechanics and metabolic cost of prosthetic gait, the recreational and
athletic pursuits of the amputees across the life span and the rehabilitation of athletes with
disabilities. As Chairman of the Athletes with Disabilities SIG/Sports Physical Therapy
Section and of the Disabled Sports/USA Medical Committee and a member of the United
States Disabled Sports Team Medical Committee, he has participated in the Barcelona
and Atlanta Paralympic Games and worked with the most elite amputee athletes.
