Robert Gailey For the past 17 years Robert Gailey, PhD, PT has specialized in the rehabilitation of the lower extremity amputee. He has done extensive research, writing and lecturing on the treatment of the amputee, further strengthening his primary interest, which has been working closely with people with amputations in his clinical practice.

Many years ago, he learned that to effectively restore an individuals lifestyle he had to listen to the person. During the process, he learned little tricks from each person with whom he worked, which in turn have been passed on to others. As a result, he believes his role as a therapist is three-fold: 1) to restore the persons ability to walk with a prosthesis to the highest possible degree in the shortest period of time. 2) Pass on functionally relevant tips to make life easier. 3) Motivate people to reach full rehabilitation potential and to move on and enjoy life.

A gentleman who had lost his limb as a young man and later became very successful in life best expressed the philosophy of the clinic. He said, "I was lost after my amputation because I had focused on the 10 percent of me I had lost. It was not until I began to focus on the 90 percent that I had left that I began to enjoy life again." Our belief is that, the key to therapy is maximizing what you have while moving beyond what you have no control over.
